‘Australis’ is our largest structure at Lullingstone and is home to a wonderfully biodiverse selection of stunning beauties. ‘Australis’ means ‘of the south’ referring to the Southern Hemisphere – therefore all of the plants in ‘Australis’ hail from South America, Southern Africa and Australasia.

Exceptionally rare plants are to found including one of the largest collections of Puya (Spiky South American Bromeliads) in cultivation the world over! Many of these dramatically foliaged Puya were collected by Tom Hart Dyke during 4 expeditions to South America. Also look out for a Bird-of Paradise called ‘Mandela’s Gold’ and the dazzling South American Blue/Purple Morning Glory Vine.
